Abstract
In situ magneto-optical Kerr effect measurements have been performed on a Pt/Co/Au(111) sandwich to investigate the development of the magnetic anisotropy (MA) of the Pt/Co interface during the growth of a Pt overlayer. Strong peaks of coercive force are observed for Pt(tPt)/Co(6AL)/Au and Au/Pt(tPt)/Co(6AL)/Au structures for tPt around two atomic layers (AL). A strong peak of interface MA is observed for the same Pt thickness. These effects, together with a peak of Kerr rotation at 632.8nm wavelength, are attributed to changes in the electronic structure at the Pt/Co interface.
